Aaron Wall's SEO Book: 50 Kick-Ass Keyword Strategies

Wordtracker have enlisted the help of one of the most respected SEO experts on the planet, Aaron Wall, to write an exclusive e-book on 50 of the best keyword strategies to use in the quest for online success. Our very own journalist, Rachelle Money caught up with Aaron to ask him more about the book and get some hints about what readers can expect.

It's 9am in Oakland, California and Aaron Wall has already taken his second international call of the day. He's a man in demand. Wall's SEO book and blog catapulted him onto the global stage of Search Engine Optimization, which has led to the growth of a worldwide audience eager to hear his thoughts on SEO strategy and keyword research.

In his e-book for Wordtracker, Wall takes us through 50 short and punchy ideas on how to develop keyword creativity. He offers up tips on overlapping your keywords and consulting keyword suggestion tools, and he shows readers how to use the latest trends and news stories to tap into fresh keywords.

"Aaron Wall's advice works. Whole successful businesses have been built from scratch off the back of his techniques. Now Aaron has done it again with another brilliant e-book that teaches you how to PROFIT from keywords."

Each chapter could earn you thousands of dollars of revenue a year

Wall told me that any of the 50 chapters “has the chance to offer businesses thousands of dollars of revenue a year.”

He also pointed out that the chapters are broad and simple, and packed with fantastic ideas which people can apply to their own business.

“It's not about one universal strategy,” he said, “it's about a collection of ideas which people can use in combination with their expertise and inside knowledge of their own industry. I think if you can combine all of this you should be able to do pretty well in SEO terms.”

Wall told me that as well as helping to produce great revenue for their businesses, his 50 Kick-Ass Keyword Strategies will also go a long way in helping people to attract quality links, build trust with customers and of course, rank highly on search engines.

Wall explained that the motivation behind his e-book was to “change the mechanical approach to SEO.”

He told me that it's useful to take a step back from your business once in a while to remind yourself that the customer should be the focus of it. Creating unique content in the same language as that used by those customers is the best way to do that, and it's also a great way to build trust.

"Aaron Wall's keyword research tips report turned out to be worth every penny."

Find and target keywords that your competitors are not

Wall stated, “There are a lot of different ways to get to the top of search engine rankings, and if you are creative, and target keywords that your major competitors don’t, then you're practically choosing who you want to compete against.”

In Chapter 36 of Wall's e-book he writes about what, on the face of it, sounds like a wacky idea—optimizing for things that don't exist.

"Take, for instance, a query from someone looking for something that doesn't exist. Direct them to the products that do exist—showing them the alternatives you can offer them.

“For a lot of these words there's not a lot of competition. For example, the Wii Fit is one of the newest video games, so there are going to be a lot of people competing for it. However, others may be looking for an older video game that is no longer made.”

He went on to say that because these products do not exist, spam and lower quality websites tend to be the only ones competing for the keywords associated with them, and that makes it easier to rank for them, providing your business has a relatively strong website.

"Those who know all 50 tips will be head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to targeting keywords correctly, both for SEO and PPC. This e-book is pretty much an SEO course in itself. Needless to say, I recommend it :)"

Wall shows you how to find keywords in the strangest of places

Wall gives creative ideas for other kinds of keyword in the e-book, including the use of last minute keywords. He presents the example of someone hoping to have flowers delivered quickly;

“Instead of searching for flowers or flower delivery, I might search for next day flowers or same day flower delivery. Not only are these searches more likely to convert better, they also indicate that the customer is likely to be willing to spend more on the product, and also to pay extra for shipping.”

Wall is also great at finding keywords in the strangest of places; in the index of a book or a news story, in a trend, search boxes, and even in junk mail. He says that junk emails are a rich source of relevant keywords because they typically make an offer and answer many related questions that help people convert. Wall says business owners should also look carefully at which keywords are being used in television adverts.

“Television ads often present an opportunity for shadow brands. As a result of pitching their products, some advertisers make these words more prominent in people’s minds, thereby increasing search volume.”

These kinds of useful and imaginative ways of looking at keyword research have made Wall the success he is.

"Out of all the keyword/ppc books I have read/skimmed in the last couple years this is by far the most comprehensive. I highly recommend it."

Avoid blindly following the same tired research path

Wordtracker founders Mike and Andy Mindel hope Wall's e-book will help customers avoid blindly following the same, tired research path that everybody else follows. The Mindel brothers asked Wall to write the 50 Kick-Ass Keyword Strategies to stop business owners missing out on traffic and profits that clever keyword thinking can bring.

In their introduction to the e-book they say; “Aaron shows you how to come up with clever, little-known strategies for getting more valuable website visitors, outwitting your competitors, and impressing your clients with surefire ways to skyrocket their website traffic.”
