Why is Wordtracker giving me two tools?

Since 1998, Wordtracker has built up a fantastic base of customers who use our industry standard keyword tools.

Over the last couple of years, we've spent time developing and releasing newer tools that have tried to make your keywords workflow quicker and more fluid - but not everyone has agreed that they’re as good as our original toolset. The original toolset has shown itself (while not being as 'feature-rich') to be solid and enduring and some of our longest-standing customers have preferred to continue to use this 'pure keyword tool' over the more recent additions we've produced.

While much of the feedback we’ve received about the new tools has been positive, the process hasn't been without its teething problems - and after listening closely to the people that have been using the tools (yes, we should have been doing that better in the first place), we've made the choice to open up both tools to all of our subscribers.

You can find the original tool at https://original.wordtracker.com (which for a while was https://oldkeywords.wordtracker.com). If you've got a Keywords tool subscription then you can log in to either system with the same details (but if you haven't, take a free trial and check them out).

Why should I use the original Keywords tool as well as the new one?

Both toolsets provide exactly the same keyword data sets - our metacrawler data gives great insight into what people are searching for on the web, and the language that they’re using to search. We've also got a great partnership with SEMrush who provide us with search engine data that's proved invaluable to many search marketers over the years.

The Quick tool in the new interface has more features, such as speedy and granular filtering, but you might prefer the original design and layout which gives more data on a single screen - and it's easier to look at a related list of keywords next to a focused list.

There's merit in both of the tools, and while we have our ideas about them, there's no substitute for your point of view.

Didn't you say you were going to close this tool down?

Yes, we did. But everyone has the latitude to change their mind, so after listening to customer feedback (amazing how helpful that can be ...), we're now taking the opportunity to show everyone both of our current keyword tools and hear what you have to say about them.

We'll be setting up some really easy ways to give that feedback. It's now clear to us that it's better to have open channels to both tools and let the feedback guide us than it was to rush to release features that, while they have their place in the SEO space, can distract from the thing that Wordtracker really does best - giving you a reliable, robust and authoritative keyword tool that produces data that you want to use.

Sounds like you're planning more changes. Should I be scared?

As we move forward, we may be looking at other features, an updated interface (possibly taking the best of each of the tools we have now), and new ways to show you new data.

We've learned that this process needs to involve greater consultation with customers and prospective customers, more beta testing, and a generally much more inclusive process.

We want to make the industry standard keywords tool as robust and powerful as it can be - so no, don’t be scared, please join the conversation and be part of the journey.

As ever, if you have any questions please to get in touch via support@wordtracker.com - we're always happy to hear from you.
