Our weekly round-up of the cool, the funny and the interesting

Beauty Vloggers should be your friends

This week the standout story for me has been the study from Pixability on Beauty on YouTube: How YouTube is radically transforming the Beauty Industry and what that means for brands. As a fan of the YouTube beauty community since 2008, I for one know how influential these Vloggers can be at promoting products, I have been extremely influenced to spend my cash, when it comes to raved about products.

After looking into the study I was surprised to find out that beauty brands only own 3% of YouTube views of the total 14.9 billion beauty views, a tiny share. Although I have noticed a few advertised “beauty tutorials” by beauty gurus sponsored by brands, it appears that major brands are underinvesting in beauty tutorials, when they attract 39% of all beauty video views. These brands need to work a lot harder to achieve awareness, so I'm intrigued to see how they will go about their YouTube content this year.

Happy Birthday Facebook

Can you believe that it’s been 10 years since Facebook was created? Time really has flown by. This week, we thoroughly enjoyed the blast from the past from Mashable, who reminded us all of the most popular trends of 2004. Remember how catchy Hey Ya! was by OutKast? The celebration wouldn't be complete without a statement from Mark Zuckerberg. Here's a great quote from him:

"When I reflect on the last 10 years, one question I ask myself is: why were we the ones to build this? We were just students. We had way fewer resources than big companies. If they had focused on this problem, they could have done it. The only answer I can think of is: we just cared more."

Do you think Facebook still has room to grow?

Strike reactions

You don’t have to live in London to have heard about the London Underground strikes. Social media platforms have been bubbling all week with frustrated commuters. If you want to laugh and to see some of the best of the internets reactions to the tube strikes, check out this amusing post from Buzz Feed. The British really do love a good queue!
